Pre-Completion Acoustic Testing in North Suffolk

With new build developments popping up all the time and the government needing to fill a meaty house building quota each year, it’s important that sound transmission between houses is at an acceptable level to ensure residents can enjoy a good quality of life. If you own a new build development or are converting an existing property into flats, sound insulation testing in North Suffolk by HA Acoustics can help you make sure your property meets these standards. We carry out pre-completion sound insulation testing in North Suffolk, including Bury St Edmunds, Lowestoft, Newmarket, Euston, Corton, Fressingfield, Rickinghall, Debenham, Mildenhall and the whole of North Suffolk and the East of England.

Do I need more than one sound insulation test?
First things first, there are two types of sound test that we test for. The first is impact noise, which describes physical noise on floors and walls. This could be something as simple as footsteps. The second test is airborne noise. This checks for noise carried through the air, like two people talking.
Houses and flats are tested slightly differently. Houses will need two airborne sound tests. If adjoining houses have separating walls between bedrooms or living rooms, they’ll need a pre-completion test.
Flats tend to need one set of floor tests. This will include two impact and two airborne tests. A flat will also need one set of wall tests, which will include two airborne tests.

When should a pre-completion sound test be carried out?
Your test should be carried out once you’ve completed works on your building, with the doors and floors finished and in place. We’d advise that all doors and windows are hung and closed, and no carpets should be laid unless they’re an important part of the floor. Make sure that on the day of your test, there’s minimal noise with no busy construction works nearby.

Can you explain what some of the sound testing terms mean?
DnT,w+Ctr
This is the expression of airborne sound insulation. You’re looking for a higher level, as this means that your partition is better insulated and therefore does a better job out keeping out the sound between walls or floors.
LnT,w
This is an expression of the amount of noise that can be heard in the receiver room. You’re actually looking for a lower level of sound here, as that indicates that less noise can be heard.
