EDUCATIONAL PREMISES – ENVIRONMENTAL NOISE ASSESSMENT

CHILDREN’S DAY NURSERY, RAYLEIGH, ESSEX

Acoustic report focusing on the environmental noise impact of extending the site’s rear garden, as a children’s nursery play area, closer to residential receptors.

HA Acoustics agreed with the Local Authority, a suitable noise criteria loosely based around the principles of BS4142 and the assessment methodology identified and accepted by the Planning Officer.

Therefore HA Acoustics was engaged to quantify and evaluate the typical impact of noise that would be generated by children playing within the rear garden of should the site be used as a children’s nursery.

A daytime environmental noise assessment has been undertaken. The planning application sought to extend the existing childrens nursery, through purchase of the neighbouring premises,  currently used as a retail shop. Planning permission was sought for a change to D1: Leisure use. This was initially refused by the Local Authority, based on the grounds of unacceptable noise levels being generated within the rear garden.

The results of HA Acoustics noise monitoring assessment was detailed in a comprehensive acoustic report, which demonstrated to the Local Authority, that the noise impact of extending the garden closer to residential development would not have an adverse impact on the local residents amenity.  Therefore, planning consent was achieved.
